Waking in Glen Derry we saw this buck trying to hide behind an uprooted tree bole where the foresters had been clearing the ground for replanting. There was an old fence post with what must have been the boundary wire from the plantation beside it. The hillside was full of stumps and drifts of heather – hence the colours. Too hard to resist, so I set it down on paper as quickly as possible and painted the picture when we came back south.
