Oil paint on canvas 61.0 X 91.4 cm

Like all my pictures, this view has been reconstructed by memory.  I have managed to limit my palette to three colours, pink, green and brown and the objects in the picture toa similar three: trees, water and sky. Within this range I have managed to give these objects different visual treatments. The clouds are thinly painted with rounded shapes that develop lines of colour when they approach the earth bound trees. You may find the colour unrealistic but I have been looking at similar skies morning and evening here, in January and I would have been walking or cycling on this tow path at this time of year. The tree trunks are fissured and seem to writhe vertically and the tree branches are densely scored. The water is marked by long fish tails of colour that taper towards the left, indicating the waves made by the wind. I had not mentioned the wind. It is, being a flat land, very windy.
